Wristbands are available for the Baca Fair & Rodeo for 2008. Each wristband will cost $18. This discounted price will allow individuals admission to the Ranch Rodeo, rodeo performances on Friday and Saturday and the demolition derby. Wristbands can be purchased from any Fair Board member, the Extension Office and the Baca County Library. The number on the tab of a purchased wristband will enable the individual to be in a drawing for $100 to be held at the demolition derby on Saturday night. The winner need not be present.

Pictures of the former Miss Baca County queens are on display at the Baca County Library until after the fair is over.

You must weigh your animals at one of the locations listed above to be able to show at the Baca Fair. Also for each animal to be weighed there will be a fee of $2.00.

There is a new ruling that no market animal will be weighed in after the weigh-in dates. This includes animals that die after weigh-in. No substitute animal will be weighed in if weigh-in dates have passed not even if it is the next day.

E-Records are available to do on the computer or you can still fill them out like the old records by hand. There are 4-H record covers available in the Extension Office if anyone is interested in using them for their E-Records. The covers will cost $2.50 each.

Record books can also be loaded on a flash drive and turned in when projects are entered at the fair.

2007 Information

State Fair Entries
Monday, August 13
Non-food entries should be in the Extension Office by 4:30 P.M.
Tuesday, August 14
Food entries should be in the Extension Office by 12:00 P.M.

There are a few lost and found items from the fair that can be picked up at the Extension Office.

September 24
Starting this week, fair premiums will be available in the Extension Office. Livestock checks may also be available.

Friday, October 5
4-H Family of the Year and Honorary 4-H Member nominations from the 4-H clubs are due in the Extension Office.

Applicants for the Outstanding Jr. & Sr. 4-H Member awards need to submit a resume which includes highlights of their 4-H, school, and church experiences. Applicants must also include a one page essay on what they have learned in 4-H or what 4-H has taught them. All Jr. & Sr. applications are evaluated and applicants are interviewed by a committee for this award. Applications are due in the Extension Office by Friday, October 5.

To apply for the prestigious Danforth Award, 4-H members 14 years and older as of Jan. 1, 2007 need to submit a resume highlighting their 4-H experiences as well as school, church, and other activities. A one or two page essay on what they have learned from 4-H or what 4-H has taught them should also be included. Applicants are judged on their resume, essay and an interview. Applications are due in the Extension Office by Friday, October 5.

Monday, October 8
All 4-H club secretary and treasurer's books are due in the Extension Office.

October 12-14
The Colorado Leadership Camp will be held in Glenwood Springs. More information is available in the Extension Office.

Wednesday, October 31
4-H members or their parents need to pick up their State Fair projects in the Extension Office by this date.

Sunday, November 4
The 4-H Achievement Banquet will be hosted by the Springfield AG 4-H Club at 1:30 P.M. at the Springfield VFW. Each club will furnish the following food items. Your club will need enough food for approximately 200 people.
Springfield Ag - meat
Vilas - vegetables
Campo - potatoes
Two Buttes - bread
Big Rock - salad
Pritchett - butter
Walsh - dessert
Your club will also need to furnish two door prizes.

Saturday & Sunday, November 17 & 18
District 6 4-H Night Owl will be held at LaJunta High School. More information is available at the Extension Office.
