October 3-10, 2009 This is National 4-H week. This year's theme is "Celebrate 4-H".
Sunday, November 1, 2009 The Achievement Banquet will be held at the Walsh School Cafeteria at 2:00 PM. The hosts this year are Two Buttes Go-Getters and Whispering Winds 4-H Clubs. Each club will need to supply enough food to feed 200 people. Each club also needs to furnish 2 door prizes. The following is a list of food items that each club needs to bring. November 20-22, 2009 The Colorado Leadership Conference will be held in Glenwood Springs, CO. This camp is for 4-H members 6th through 9th grades. Workshops will be held on Leadership, Public Speaking and Community Service. The cost is $110 per person including 2 nights lodging at the Ramada Inn, meals and workshop costs. Call the Extension Office at 523-6971 for registration packets. The deadline to register is November 13, 2009.
Leader enrollment forms are available at the Extension Office. New leaders must complete a New Leader form as well as a Volunteer form. All other leaders just need to complete a Volunteer form. Also club bank account information forms need to be completed. These forms must be turned in and on file at the Extension Office.
Turn in to the Extension Office any gently used or unused 4-H manuals. These items can be reused and will save money for the 4-H Council.
Goats Available
Seven additional Boer goats are available for free to 4-H members from Joe Rosengrants. Call Mr. Rosengrants at 523-6478 for more information and then get enrollment paperwork into the Extension Office.
Opportunity for 4-H Club Treasurers
All treasurers of 4-H clubs have the opportunity to put their club's financial information on their own Quicken account on the laptop in the Extension Office. Call the Extension Office for more details.
Leathercraft and Silversmithing Projects
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 Rex Crawford will hold an organizational meeting for 4-H leathercraft classes at the Vilas school at 7:00 PM. For more information call Rex at 324-5234.
Jesse Smith of Pritchett will be starting a weekly leathercraft class for a total of 8 weeks for 4-H members at the Pritchett school beginning in March.
Don Albert will be offering one-on-one silversmithing classes to 4-H members 14-18 years of age. Contact the Extension Office for more details.

Youth Fest 2009
Youth Fest camp is for 4-H youth ages 9-13 years old. The camp is held at the Ponderosa Retreat and Confernce Center in Larkspur. The camp will be February 13-15, 2009. The registration deadline is February 1, 2009. Contact the Extension Office for more information.
Working Ranch Horse Program

IRS Return
This year all 4-H clubs will be required to file an E-Z Postcard return. More information to follow from the Extension Office.
Citizenship Washington Focus
Applications for the Citizenship Washington Focus trip will be due in the Extension Office by February 20, 2009. The trip wil be June 13-20, 2009. Contact the Extension Office for more information.
Weigh-In Dates & Information
There will be a $3.00 fee charged per animal at weigh-in to cover the cost of an ear tag and a retinal scan. The fee can be paid using cash or check made out to Baca Fair & Rodeo.
An additional "family animal" in the sheep, goat and hog species may be weighed in on weigh-in day. This animal is to be used in case of an emergency where an animal is injured or dies. For more information, contact the Extension Office, Greg Cash or Steve Crane (Swine Superintendents) for clarification. Beef family animals will be allowed in the 2010 fair.

May 6, 2009 is the date for pre-registration forms to be turned into the Extension Office to attend the Memorial Day Weekend Horse Clinic at Lamar Community College. The fee is $25.00 for 2 days, $30.00 for 3 days and outdoor stalls are $10.00 per horse for the event.

Wristbands are available for the Baca Fair & Rodeo for 2009. Each wristband will cost $20. This discounted price will allow individuals admission to the U-47 Band performance on Wednesday, the KPRA Rodeo and Country Western Dance Band on Thursday, the Dry Creeks Ranch Rodeo on Friday and the Demolition Derby on Saturday. Wristbands can be purchased from any Fair Board member, the Extension Office and the Baca County Library. The number on the tab of a purchased wristband will enable the individual to be in a drawing for $100 to be held at the Demolition Derby on Saturday night. The winner need not be present.
Pictures of the former Miss Baca County queens are on display at the Baca County Library until after the fair is over.
There is a new ruling that no market animal will be weighed in after the weigh-in dates. This includes animals that die after weigh-in. No substitute animal will be weighed in if weigh-in dates have passed not even if it is the next day.
